Millo Torres y el Tercer Planeta emerged from San Juan’s alt-rock scene in the mid-1990s, when singer-guitarist Millo Torres—fresh from studies at Berklee—assembled a lineup that blended rock with reggae, ska, and Caribbean rhythms. Early members included guitarist Carlos Zubrzycki, bassist Tinci Moreno, keyboardist Ramón Caballero, pianist Javier Bermudo, and drummer Rigo Collazo. Their debut Soñando Realidad arrived in 1997, introducing socially minded lyrics and a hybrid groove that would define the project. Caminando followed in 1999 on WEA Latina; its title track gave the band U.S. radio traction, peaking at number 31 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay chart in June 1999. The group expanded its reach with Mundo de Locura (2001), then documented its stage energy on the live set Canciones de Reggae y Ska (2003), later reissued digitally as Canciones de Reggae y Ska en Vivo (2024). Momentum crested with Masa con Masa (2006), whose singles “Me Gustas Como Quieras” and “Dime Amor” entered the Latin Pop Airplay chart in 2007; the album earned a Rock Album of the Year nomination at Premio Lo Nuestro 2008. After the fusion-leaning Sol (2013), Millo Torres revived the project with Aire Sereno—recorded in 2023 and widely released in January 2025—with guest spots by percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo on “Te Quiero Celebrar,” “A Tu Lado,” and “Penélope,” plus a feature from singer Natalia Lugo on “Lindo Amanecer.” Subsequent releases include the 2024 digital reissue of early live material and the 2025 single “Ella Fue (The One) [Rerecorded],” which peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart.
