Michael Harrison Sweet, born July 4, 1963 in Whittier, California, was the co‑founder, songwriter, guitarist and lead vocalist of the Christian metal band Stryper. After early performances in the early 1980s with his brother’s band Roxx Regime, Michael Harrison Sweet’s breakthrough came with Stryper’s debut Soldiers Under Command (1985) and hits such as "Honestly" and "Soldiers of the Light", which helped the band chart on the Billboard 200. In 1992 Michael Sweet departed to pursue a solo career, releasing Michael Sweet (issued in 1994 and later titled 1994) and Real (1996), the latter earning a Dove Award nomination; his album Truth (1998) was re‑issued by Restless Records in 2000. Michael Sweet joined Boston in 2007, contributing vocals and guitar until 2011, and later revived Stryper for reunion tours and new releases including Reborn (2005) and Even the Devil Believes (2020). He also collaborated with George Lynch on three albums and continued solo projects such as One Sided War (2016) and The Master Plan (2026).
