Cartoone is a Scottish musical group formed in 1967 from a band called The Chevlons. They toured extensively across Scotland, supporting other acts like the Merseybeats and the Hollies. Their breakthrough came when they moved to London and secured a recording contract with Atlantic Records through connections with Lulu and songwriter Mark London. Cartoone became the first British rock band signed to Atlantic, predating Led Zeppelin. Their self-titled debut album, released in January 1969, featured Jimmy Page on guitar for several tracks. The band appeared on BBC TV shows It's Happening for Lulu and Top of the Pops, performing "Penny for the Sun". In April 1969, Cartoone toured the United States supporting Led Zeppelin. Despite their initial success, Atlantic Records dropped the band and refused to release their second album, Reflections.
