Maryanne Amacher, born February 25, 1938 in Kane, Pennsylvania, was an American composer and installation artist. She studied composition at the University of Pennsylvania and created CITYL-INKS in 1967, a telematic performance broadcast live by radio station WBFO. Amacher's work often involved site-specific installations and psychoacoustic phenomena known as auditory distortion products. She collaborated with John Cage on projects such as "Lecture on the Weather" (1975) and "Empty Words" (1978). Amacher was awarded a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists Award in 1998 and received the Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica in 2005 for her project "TEO! A sonic sculpture". Her notable works include Sound Characters (Making The Third Ear) released in 1999, and Sound Characters 2 (Making Sonic Spaces) released in 2008. She passed away on October 22, 2009.
