German new wave band, UKW, was formed in 1979 by Peter Hubert, Andreas Schwarz-Ruszczynski, and Andreas Koch. The group's lineup stabilized with Peer Gerlach and Thomas Schütze in February 1981 and the group gained early recognition by winning the Berlin Senate Rock Contest, leading to their first single "Bleib Doch Bei Mir" released in December 1981. Their debut album UltraKurzWelle, produced by Teldec and released in 1982, featured the hit single "Sommersprossen", which reached number 5 on the German charts and number 7 on the Swiss charts. Their second album Alles Klar was released in early 1983, with the lead single "Hey Matrosen" reaching number 3 on the ZDF Hitparade. Following a month-long tour and an appearance at the Funkausstellung Berlin in September 1983, Peer Gerlach left the group, leading to their eventual disbandment later that year.
