Michigan Jake was a barbershop quartet formed in 1995, named after Michigan J. Frog from the 1955 Merrie Melodies short One Froggy Evening. The original lineup consisted of section leaders from the Louisville Times chorus in Louisville, Kentucky. After several lineup changes, including Drew Kirkman and Joel Wilson joining as tenor and baritone respectively, Michigan Jake won the 2001 International Quartet Contest in Nashville. Notable albums include For the Record (2000) and How Rhythm was Born (2004). They were also the first barbershop quartet to win a Harmony Award from the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. Michigan Jake announced their retirement on July 1, 2004.
