Les Ombres is a French early music ensemble specializing in the performance of Baroque repertoire on period instruments. It was founded in 2008 by Sylvain Sartre and Margaux Blanchard, with the aim of linking musicological research and performance. The ensemble takes its name from the opening of Concert pour Louis XIII in the Philidor manuscript. Les Ombres gained early recognition in 2009 by winning second prize at the “A Tre” International Early Music Competition in Trossingen, Germany. Their debut recording, Concert chez la Reine (2010), was released on the Ambronay Editions label and distributed by Harmonia Mundi, featuring works by François Couperin and François Colin de Blamont. The ensemble has collaborated with institutions including the Opéra de Saint-Étienne and the Fondation Singer-Polignac, among others.
