Clarence E. Wheeler, born on September 27, 1885, in Walnut, Kansas, was an American musician and composer. In the 1930s, he formed an orchestra that appeared on radio in Chicago, playing on The Terminix All-Star Program in May 1933 on WBBM. He served as music director of the station from 1935 to 1938 before moving to Hollywood in 1938. Wheeler began composing music for various films and shorts, including his first credit in The Carpenters (1941). He worked extensively with Walter Lantz Productions, scoring nearly 140 cartoons from Puny Express through The Nautical Nut, released posthumously in 1967. Wheeler also composed for early television programs and created the original opening and closing themes for the animated series Crusader Rabbit. His film music was recompiled as stock music, used in various TV shows like Topper and Wyatt Earp. Wheeler passed away on December 28, 1966.
