Cyrus Faryar, born on February 26, 1936 in Tehran, Iran, is an Iranian-American folk musician, songwriter, and record producer. He moved to Hawaii as a child and became friends with folk singer Dave Guard. After graduating from Punahou School in 1953, Faryar opened the first coffee house in Hawaii. In 1961, he joined Dave Guard's group, the Whiskeyhill Singers. After the Whiskeyhill Singers disbanded, Faryar returned to Hawaii and formed the Modern Folk Quartet in 1963, which released several albums including The Modern Folk Quartet (1963) and Changes (1964). In 1967, he collaborated on The Zodiac: Cosmic Sounds, a pioneering psychedelic album. Faryar released two solo albums in the early 1970s, including Cyrus (1971), and became known as a producer for artists like Linda Ronstadt.
