Milton Brown, born on September 8, 1903, in Stephenville, Texas, was an American singer and bandleader. He began his musical career in 1930 after joining Bob Wills and guitarist Herman Arnspiger at a local dance. The trio performed on radio station WBAP as the Aladdin Laddies before joining the Light Crust Doughboys in early 1931. Brown left to form Milton Brown and His Musical Brownies, which became successful playing at dance halls across Texas and Oklahoma. Their innovative sound fused hillbilly hokum, jazz, and pop, earning Brown the nickname "Father of Western Swing." In April 1934, they recorded for Bluebird Records, followed by sessions with Decca Records in January 1935. Their final recording sessions took place in March 1936 in New Orleans. Brown's career ended tragically when he died on April 18, 1936, following a car accident.
