Ismo Alanko is a pioneering Finnish musician whose career began with the band Sight, placing in the 1976 Finnish Rock Championship. He gained national fame in 1980 after winning the championship with the new wave group Hassisen Kone, which produced the influential albums Täältä tullaan Venäjä (1980), Rumat sävelet (1981), and Harsoinen teräs (1982). Following their split, Alanko co-founded the experimental rock band Sielun Veljet, releasing several studio albums before their 1991 dissolution. His solo career launched with Kun Suomi putos puusta (1990), followed by landmark works like Jäätyneitä lauluja (1993) and Taiteilijaelämää (1995). A decorated artist, he has earned multiple Emma awards and the 2003 Juha Vainio Writer's Award.
