Philip Francis Fowke is an English classical pianist born on June 28, 1950, in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. Fowke studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Gordon Green and made his London debut in 1974 at Wigmore Hall. That same year, Fowke won joint second place at the BBC Piano Competition. In 1977, Fowke was the fifth-place finalist in the inaugural Sydney International Piano Competition. Fowke made his Proms debut in 1979 performing John Ireland’s “Piano Concerto in E-flat major”. His 1982 United States debut featured a performance of the Arthur Bliss “Piano Concerto”. Fowke has collaborated with conductors Vladimir Ashkenazy and Neeme Järvi. His discography includes Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” and the premiere recording of the Bliss Piano Sonata. Fowke has taught at the Royal Academy of Music and Trinity College of Music. In 2000, Fowke became a member of the London Piano Quartet.
