Brendel Sarah was born in Hannover on in 1976 and began performing at sixteen, drawing inspiration from Bob Dylan and Larry Norman. Her first commercial breakthrough came in 1998 when producer Albert Frey recorded the EP Higher Hope, which secured a record deal and led to a U.S. release of the album Subrosa in 2001. In 2003, she released Under the Fire under ZYX, featuring the single "Take My Heart" that appeared in the soundtrack of The Poet. The following year, the self‑titled album Sarah Brendel was issued by Inpop Records in the United States, and she toured extensively in North America and Europe. 2005 saw the EP One Day Recordings and the single "Fire", while 2008 brought Early Morning Hours on Gerth Medien. After founding Eisenbahn Records with her husband, she released Before The Mountains in 2011, recorded with Castle Studios in Schloss Röhrsdorf. In 2014, she issued Songs for Justice, a collaborative project with the International Justice Mission. The album Among 10.000 appeared in 2021, followed by a series of benefit concerts. Brendel Sarah received the 2010 German Rock & Pop Prize for Best Pop Singer and Best Song, and her collaboration "Du bist nicht allein" remained in the German Top 10 for 20 weeks.
