Reiner Witzel, born on June 21, 1967, in Mannheim, Germany, is a jazz musician. He studied at the Musikhochschule Köln and the Manhattan School of Music before teaching at institutions such as Maastricht, Düsseldorf, and Frankfurt. Witzel's early breakthrough came with winning the WDR Stadtmusik with the group Backyard Moon in 1988. His first notable album release was Infinite Voyage by Reiner Witzel Group in 1993. Throughout his career, Witzel has collaborated with numerous artists including Richie Beirach, Alex Sipiagin, Dave Kikoski and released several albums such as Perceptions (1998) with Witzel’s Venue featuring David Sanborn and Vernon Reid, and Steppin’ Up (2016) with Datfunk.
