Mawuli Kulego, known professionally as Lazee, was born on 15 June 1985 in Malmö, Sweden, and emerged as a Swedish rapper of Ghanaian descent. His early exposure to music came through his father, a DJ who introduced him to soul, R&B, and reggae, while Lazee’s fascination with hip‑hop began at age seven and led him to write his first rhyme at ten. After a formative period in London during his adolescence, he returned to Malmö, where he released the mixtape It Is What It Is with New York DJ Kayslay, distributing it to 5 000 Stockholm subway users. In 2007 he relocated to Stockholm, collaborating with producer iSHi and signing with 2Stripes and Sony BMG, which released his breakthrough single "Rock Away" in 2008; the track achieved success across Scandinavia and Europe. Lazee continued to build his catalogue with the 2008 album Setting Standards and the 2011 album Supposed II Happen, while collaborations with artists including J‑Son, Neverstore, and Mohombi garnered airplay on UK radio stations like Radio 1 and Kiss 100. His work contributed to the growth of Swedish hip‑hop in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
