Banda Beijo, a Brazilian band from Bahia, was formed in 1988 as a carnival bloc known as Bloco Beijo. The group's initial frontman was Ernesto de Souza Andrade Junior, better known as Netinho. Initially conceived as an Axé band, Banda Beijo incorporated elements from artists like Tim Maia and the Police. Their debut album Prove Beijo was released in 1988. In 1992, Netinho left the band to pursue a solo career with Polygram/Universal Music. A subsequent legal dispute prevented Banda Beijo from using their name for six years. The group reformed in 1998 with Gilmelândia Palmeira dos Santos, known as Gil, as the new lead singer. In 2009, Levi Alvim joined the band, and their album Procurando Beijo, featuring the hit song "Senha", was released.
