Crow is an Australian alternative rock band, active in the 1990s and since the 2010s. Formed in Sydney in 1986 by Peter Fenton (vocals, guitar), his brother John Fenton (drums), Peter Archer (guitar) and Jim Woff (bass), they made a name for themselves with the 1990 release of the Sunburnt Throats and Happy Thunderclouds EP on Phantom Records. Following in the footsteps of post-punk and tending towards noise rock, the band's subsequent recordings for Half a Cow Records saw them evolve, with the Crow EP (1992), its successor Railhead (1993) and the Steve Albini-produced My Kind of Pain (1993), which received rave reviews from the specialist press. After another EP, The Helicon Days in 1994, Crow signed with the RooArt label and recorded his second album Li-Lo-Ling (1995), with contributions from Warren Ellis (The Dirty Three) and Chris Abrahams (The Necks). Several changes of musicians took place over the following years, notably the departure of Peter Archer and the arrival of Abrahams on keyboards for the album Play with Love (1998), released by Ra Records. Poor sales precipitated the band's break-up in 1999. In 2007, Crow made a surprise return to the stage, which continued with the studio recording of the album Arcane (2010), in its original configuration, and occasional concerts. A former member who replaced John Fenton on drums until 1999, Richard Andrew died on October 30, 2024 at the age of 58.
