The Volumes were an American R&B vocal group formed in 1960 in Detroit, Michigan. The group consisted of members Ed Union, Elijah Davis, Larry Wright, Joe Travillion, Ernest Newson, Herb Hamlett, and Clarence Berger Jr. Their breakthrough came with the release of their single "I Love You" on Chex Records in 1962. This track, co-written by bass Ernest Newson and manager Willie Ewing, blended doo-wop and Latin beats, reaching Number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 that year. The success of "I Love You" marked a significant moment for The Volumes, showcasing their unique sound and garnering national attention. Following this success, The Volumes recorded additional singles for Chex and American Arts labels but did not achieve further chart success.
