Janet Kay Bogle, born on January 17, 1958 in Willesden, North West London, is an English singer known for her contributions to lovers rock and reggae music. Her career began when she was discovered singing impromptu at a rehearsal studio by Tony "Gad" Robinson, keyboardist from the band Aswad, who recommended her to Alton Ellis. In 1978, she recorded "I Do Love You" and "That's What Friends Are For", but it was her 1979 single "Silly Games", written and produced by Dennis Bovell, that became a hit across Europe, reaching Number 2 in the UK Singles Chart. This success led to appearances on Top of the Pops and other notable television programs. Her acting career included playing the character Angel in the UK sitcom No Problem! (1983–85). In 1984, she enjoyed a further club hit with "Eternally Grateful", which also reached the UK top 100. Throughout her career, Janet Kay has released several albums, including Lovin' You in 1979 and Lovin' You ... More in 2003. Her work has been recognized with a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) award in the 2023 New Year Honours for services to music, and she was included on the 2003 list of "100 Great Black Britons."
