The Big Three, a Merseybeat band from Liverpool, England, formed in 1961. The group evolved from Cass and the Cassanovas, which included Brian Cassar, Adrian Barber, Johnny Hutchinson, and Johnny Gustafson. Their breakthrough came with the release of their first EP, At The Cavern, in 1963. The band's most notable recording was "Some Other Guy", released the same year, which became a minor chart hit and a standard in the Merseybeat scene. In July 1962, Brian Griffiths joined the group, establishing their best-known lineup. They were signed to Brian Epstein's agency and performed at Hamburg's Star-Club. After recording "Some Other Guy" for Decca Records, they terminated their partnership with Epstein in July 1963. Gustafson and Griffiths left in November 1963, and the band underwent several lineup changes before folding in 1966. Johnny Hutchinson died on April 12, 2019. In 1973, a reunion album, Resurrection, was released featuring Gustafson, Griffiths, Nigel Olsson, and J. Peter Robinson. The band's music has been featured in various posthumous releases and recognitions, including the musical Cilla The Musical in 2017.
