Chris Knox, born on September 2, 1952, in Invercargill, New Zealand, is a rock musician who emerged during the punk era with bands The Enemy and Toy Love. After Toy Love disbanded, he formed Tall Dwarfs with guitarist Alec Bathgate. His solo career began with Songs for Cleaning Guppies (1983). Notable albums include Seizure, Croaker, and Polyfoto Duck Shaped Pain & "Gum". In 2001, his ballad "Not Given Lightly" was voted New Zealand's 13th best song by APRA members. Knox played live extensively in New Zealand and internationally. He also ventured into film reviewing and television presenting. On June 11, 2009, Chris Knox suffered a stroke. The album Stroke: Songs for Chris Knox, featuring various artists, was released in November 2009 to support his rehabilitation.
