Klaus Weiland, born on February 11, 1947, in Bergen-Belsen, Germany, is a German folk guitarist and singer-songwriter. He began playing guitar at age 17 after his family moved to Britain. Returning to Germany in the late 1960s, Weiland was drafted but refused military service on conscientious grounds. He studied linguistics at the University of Freiburg and co-founded the Freiburger Folk & Blues Club with Ray Austin in 1970. His first album, Pebbles, was released in 1975. Weiland collaborated extensively with notable musicians such as Hannes Wader and Werner Lämmerhirt. His instrumental piece "Das Loch in der Banane" (1984) notably became a staple of German television programming. After leaving Germany to travel extensively, Weiland settled in Texas. Subsequent albums include Acoustic Passion (1996) and Listen to the Sky (1999).
