Dieter Reith, born on February 25, 1938, in Mainz, Germany, was a pianist known for his contributions to jazz. He began playing piano in 1945, initially focusing on classical music but later transitioning to jazz. In 1961, he joined the SWF-Bigband as their pianist until 1971. Reith's breakthrough came in 1972 when he collaborated with Peter Herbolzheimer and Jerry van Rooyen to compose and arrange the Olympic entry music for Kurt Edelhagen’s orchestra, earning them a Gold Record and the Federal Cross of Merit. Throughout his career, Reith released several notable albums, including Swing with Svend (1966) with Svend Asmussen and Timeless / Zeitlos (2011). He also worked as an organist with Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination & Brass. He passed away on April 1, 2020, at the age of 82.
