Michael Luke Mejares is a Filipino singer and songwriter of African-American descent born on June 26, 1975, in Manila. He grew up in Tagbilaran, Bohol, and completed his education in Cebu City. Mejares began his musical career in 1998 as the lead vocalist for the neo-soul group South Border, where he replaced Brix Ferraris. In 2002, he left the ensemble to perform as a solo artist. Mejares released his debut studio album, Stop, Luke and Listen, in 2004. He followed this with the studio recordings Pangako (2007) and Kasayaw (2012). Mejares served as a co-host for the television program Sabado Boys. In 2008, he received an Awit Award nomination for the song “Pangako Yan”. Mejares was named a board member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board in 2017. That same year, he released the album Blackbird, featuring the singles “Funk Whatcha Heard” and “Aaminin Ko Sayo”.
