Ketil Are Haugsand, born on June 13, 1947, in Oslo, Norway, is a harpsichordist and conductor. He began his musical studies in Trondheim and Oslo before furthering his education in Prague and Haarlem. In 1973, he earned his solo diploma, marking the start of his professional career. Haugsand's breakthrough came in 1975 when he was awarded the Prix d'Excellence at the Amsterdam conservatory under Gustav Leonhardt. He has since toured extensively across Europe, Israel, and the United States. Notable recordings include Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations and collaborations with the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra on Carlos Seixas : Missa, Dixit Dominus, Tantum Ergo, and Organ Sonatas. From 1974 to 1995, he served as a professor of music at the Norwegian Academy of Music, followed by a professorship at the Academy of Music in Cologne, Germany, beginning in 1995.
