Simone Eckert, born in 1966 in Germany, is a violist and singer known for her work in Baroque and classical music. She studied viola da gamba at the Musikhochschule Hamburg and later at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. In 1991, she founded the Ensemble Hamburger Ratsmusik, with which she has recorded nearly 40 CDs, many featuring first recordings of compositions for viola da gamba. Eckert's repertoire includes Renaissance, Baroque, and pre-classical works, as well as contemporary compositions. She has received several awards, including the ECHO-Klassik-Preis in 2006 for her CD "Lübecker Virtuosen". Eckert continues to perform regularly as a soloist and ensemble leader across Europe, the USA, and China.
