Julius Friedrich Asal, born on February 12, 1997, in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe, Germany, is a German pianist who began playing the piano at age three. He received his first formal lessons at eight from Sibylle Cada in Frankfurt am Main and won the 1st Prize and Special Award at the Mendelssohn-Wettbewerb für junge Pianisten und Streicher in 2006. Asal studied under Wolfgang Hess at Dr. Hoch’s Konservatorium from 2007 to 2013, and later with Eldar Nebolsin at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. He has performed with notable orchestras such as the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie and the Brandenburg State Orchestra and at venues including the Wigmore Hall London and the Alte Oper Frankfurt. In 2019, he received a Silver Medal at the Internationalen Klavierwettbewerb Palma d'Oro in Italy. Asal's debut album Scriabin – Scarlatti was released in 2024 under Deutsche Grammophon.
