Niklas Eklund was a Swedish trumpeter born in 1969 in Gothenburg. He studied with his father, Bengt Eklund, at the University of Gothenburg and with Edward H. Tarr at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Eklund served as the solo trumpeter for the Basel Radio Symphony Orchestra until 1996. He received first prize at the Altenburg International Baroque Trumpet competition in 1996. His career included performances in the Bach Pilgrimage series directed by Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the Art of the Baroque Trumpet series on Naxos. He appeared as a guest performer in the United States, Australia, and Russia. Eklund released the recording Concertos brandebourgeois (intégrale) in 2006. He died on April 10, 2025.
