Mark Kosower, born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is a principal cellist. He began playing the cello at age one-and-a-half under his father, Paul's tutelage, and later studied with János Starker at Indiana University and Joel Krosnick at the Juilliard School. Kosower's professional career started as solo cellist of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in Germany from 2006 to 2010, followed by his appointment as principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra. He has performed with numerous orchestras worldwide, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Orchestre de Paris. Notable recordings include Ginastera's Cello Concertos (2011) with Lothar Zagrosek and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. Kosower has won top prizes in both the Rostropovich and Pablo Casals International Cello competitions, as well as the Irving Klein International String Competition.
