Peter Planyavsky, born on May 9, 1947, in Vienna, Austria, is an organist and composer. He studied at the Schottengymnasium and graduated from the Vienna Academy of Music in 1966. After working as an apprentice to an organ builder, he began his career as an organist at Stift Schlägl in Upper Austria in 1968, followed by a position at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna in 1969. From 1983 to 1990, Planyavsky served as the director of music for the cathedral. He recorded complete works for organ by composers such as Johannes Brahms and Felix Mendelssohn, and conducted various neglected organ concertos. His notable compositions include "Der zufriedengestellte Autobus" and "Cactus tragicus". Planyavsky received several awards, including the Orlando di Lasso Medal in 2004 and the Golden Medal of Honor for Services to the City of Vienna in 2005.
