Kemuri, a Japanese–American ska punk band formed in Orange County, California in 1995, emerged with a blend of upbeat ska rhythms and positive lyrical themes known as PMA. The group’s early work included the single “Little Playmate” (1998) and the album 77 Days (1998), both of which helped establish their presence across the Japanese and U.S. ska-punk scenes. In 2001, Kemuri released the album Emotivation, which showcased the band’s energetic horn arrangements and bilingual songwriting. Their 2003 mini-CD KEMURI/葉月の海 expanded their reach in the Japanese market. The 2007 albums Our PMA and Blastin’! marked the peak of their initial run before the band announced a disbandment on 12 December 2007, with a final show in Tokyo the following day. After a five-year hiatus, Kemuri reunited in 2012, embarking on tours across Asia, Europe, and the United States. The reunion produced All for This! (2013), KEMURIFIED (2014), RAMPANT (2014), SKA BRAVO (2015), F (2015), and FREEDOMOSH (2017), each album reaffirming their commitment to the PMA ethos. The band’s sustained touring and consistent output have solidified their reputation within the ska punk genre.
