The Airmen of Note, a jazz ensemble based in the United States, was established in 1950 as part of the United States Air Force Band. Formed to continue the legacy of Major Glenn Miller's Army Air Forces Orchestra, the group initially consisted of 18 professional musicians and quickly became known for its touring performances across the United States, Europe, and Asia. The band released their first albums in the early 1960s, including Reserved for You (Program No. 383 / 384) and Reserved for You (Program No. 447 / 448). Over the decades, the Airmen of Note diversified their sound under arrangers like Sammy Nestico, Mike Crotty, and Alan Baylock, incorporating contemporary jazz elements and collaborating with notable artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughan, and Nancy Wilson. The ensemble also played a pivotal role in the 1954 film The Glenn Miller Story. Their album Cool Yule reached number 2 on the JazzWeek jazz album chart.
