The United States Air Force Band was established on September 24, 1941. Initially known as the Bolling Army Air Forces Band under Lieutenant L.P. Holcomb and led by Alf Heiberg, it expanded from four members to 100 musicians by late 1942. The band's first international tour occurred in 1944 under George S. Howard, who served as Commander and Conductor for two decades. Post-World War II, the band was reorganized to serve peacetime functions and officially became the United States Air Force Band in 1947. Notable ensembles include the Concert Band, Singing Sergeants, Airmen of Note, Air Force Strings, Ceremonial Brass, and Max Impact. The band has performed for over 100 million people live and via broadcasts globally, embarking on 25 international tours across more than 50 countries.
