Agent Provocateur was formed in England in 1995 by John Gosling, Matthew Ashman, Dan Peppe, Danny Saber, and Cleo Torez, a group of musicians who combined rock and electronica. The band’s first single, "Kicks", was released in 1995 and gained attention after a supporting performance for Royal Trux in London. Following Matthew Ashman’s death in 1995, Lance Burman joined on guitar, and the group released the album Where the Wild Things Are in 1997, featuring Shaun Ryder on the track "Agent Dan", which entered the UK Top 50. The single "Red Tape" was later included in the soundtrack for the film The Jackal. In 2004, the album Peep Show was issued, expanding the band’s catalogue. The group performed a tribute concert for Matthew Ashman at the Scala in London on 21 November 2010, with Adam Ant and former Ashman bands sharing the bill.
