Marie-Annick Nicolas, a French violinist born on January 2, 1956, won her first prize at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris at the age of 13. She quickly gained international recognition, becoming one of the youngest laureates of several prestigious competitions. Following advice from David Oistrakh, she studied under Boris Bielinki at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. She received numerous accolades, including the Grand Prix Long-Thibault (1973). She then moved to the United States, invited by Franco Gulli to the School of Bloomington at Indiana University. From 1980 to 1986, she served as a principal soloist with the Orchestre de Radio France. Her discography includes notable releases such as L'oeuvre Complète Pour Violon Et Piano (1993), Johann Sebastian Bach: Sonates Et Partitas (2000), and Virtuose (2002). She also received the award, Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Légion d'honneur in 2013. The asteroid (158222) Manicolas was named in her honor.
