Gabriele Kern, known professionally as Gaby King, was born on January 3, 1945, in Bad Wiessee, Bavaria, Germany. She began her career as a child model and later pursued singing, initially performing at home and collecting records of songs she heard on the radio. In 1958, King made her first recording as part of a duo with Wolfgang Martis, releasing "Ich möchte mit dir träumen / Teenager Melody". The following year, she signed with Ariola Records after winning a talent competition in Munich. Her solo career took off with hits like "Ein junger Kavalier / Vati ist der Beste" and "Oh, wird das schön", which were accompanied by appearances in films such as Mädchen für die Mambo-Bar and Schick deine Frau nicht nach Italien. King's popularity peaked in 1960 when she sold 380,000 singles and was ranked ninth among Bravo readers. She continued to release notable songs like "Mein Traumkavalier / Doch du bist es nicht" and appeared in films such as Davon träumen alle Mädchen and Schlager-Revue. In later years, King worked as a synchronsprecherin, radio host, and television moderator. She released her album Vati ist der beste in 2014.
