Joël Grare is a French percussionist and composer born in 1961. As a self-taught musician, he creates compositions inspired by classical, baroque, and world music traditions. Grare spent twenty years developing the “éventail des cloches,” a chromatic keyboard constructed from cowbells manufactured in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. He has collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Jordi Savall and Jean-François Zygel. Grare released his debut album, Follow, in 2003, followed by Paris-Istanbul-Shangaï in 2008, which received four stars from Le Monde de la musique. In 2009, he performed at the festival Le clavier dans tous ses états. Since 2012, he has been a frequent guest on the television program La Boîte à musique. His later discography includes the 2018 album Des Pas Sous la Neige. Throughout his career, Grare has contributed to film scores and performed with ensembles such as Le Poème Harmonique.
