Ruins, an Australian black metal band from Hobart, Tasmania, was formed between 2000 and 2002 by Alex Pope and Dave Haley. Initially a recording project, Ruins featured Pope on vocals, guitar, and bass, with Haley on drums. Their first release, Atom and Time, was intended as a demo but was later deemed suitable for public use and released in 2004 by Blacktalon Media. The band's debut full-length album, Spun Forth as Dark Nets, followed in 2005. Ruins recruited session musicians for live performances, including Joe Haley and Kai Summers, and toured extensively across Australia and New Zealand, supporting notable bands such as Satyricon, Celtic Frost, and Immortal. Their third release, Cauldron (2008), was repressed on limited edition vinyl by Debemur Morti Productions. They went on to release Front the Final Foes in 2009 and Place of No Pity in 2012.
