Jacob Pincus Perelmuth, known professionally as Jan Peerce, was born on June 3, 1904, in Manhattan, New York. He developed his lyric tenor voice early and studied singing with Giuseppe Boghetti. After early professional work in the 1930s, he rose to prominence through radio and concert performances, including collaborations with Arturo Toscanini and the NBC Symphony Orchestra. He joined the Metropolitan Opera in 1941, where he performed leading roles such as Alfredo in La traviata and Cavaradossi in Tosca. Later in his career, he appeared as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. Peerce retired in 1982 and died in New Rochelle, New York, on December 15, 1984.
