Royden Dickey Lipscomb, known professionally as Dickey Lee and born on September 21, 1936 in Memphis, Tennessee, is anAmerican pop‑country singer-songwriter. He formed a country trio at 16 and recorded "Dream Boy" (1962) and "Stay True Baby" (1962) in Memphis for Tampa Records before moving to Texas, where he achieved his first chart success when George Jones released his composition "She Thinks I Still Care" (1962). Dickey Lee’s own breakthrough came that same year with "Patches" for Smash Records, which reached number 6 on the pop chart, sold over a million copies, and earned a gold disc despite radio bans. In 1963, he charted again with "I Saw Linda Yesterday" (1962) at number 14. Dickey Lee returned to teen‑tragedy with "Laurie (Strange Things Happen)" in 1965. After a period focused on songwriting and production, he signed with RCA and released country hits such as "Rocky" (1975) and "9,999,999 Tears" (1975), and co‑written songs for Emmylou Harris, John Schneider, and others. Notable albums include Ashes of Love (1972), Again (1980), and Everybody Loves a Winner (1981). In 1995, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
