Magdalena Maria Yvonne Tagliaferro, known professionally as Magda Tagliaferro, was a French-Brazilian pianist born on January 19, 1893, in Petrópolis. She debuted in public at age nine in São Paulo. Tagliaferro enrolled in the Conservatoire de Paris in 1906 and obtained the Primer Premio in eight months. She studied under Alfred Cortot. Tagliaferro performed in France and Spain and collaborated with musicians such as Georges Enesco, Jules Boucherit, and Denise Soriano. During World War II, she established the Escuela Tagliaferro in Brazil, where she trained pianists including Nellie Braga and Lina Pires de Campos. She taught at the Conservaoire Supérieur de Musique de Paris from 1937 to 1939. Tagliaferro died on September 9, 1986, in Rio de Janeiro. Posthumous reissues of her recordings included Magda Tagliaferro Revival (1991) and Le piano français de Chabrier à Debussy (1993).
