Jozef "Jožo" Ráž, born on October 24, 1954, in Bratislava, Slovakia, is a Slovak singer-songwriter and bassist. He founded the pop-rock band Elán in 1968 with his schoolmates Vašo Patejdl, Juraj Farkaš, and Zdeno Baláž. The band played their first public concert in 1970 and went on to become one of Slovakia’s most popular musical acts, releasing numerous albums and performing hundreds of concerts across Czechoslovakia and abroad. Ráž and Elán have received multiple awards, including the Golden Nightingale, and notable performances at Prague’s Letná and New York’s Carnegie Hall.
