El Inquilino Comunista, a Spanish indie rock band from Guecho, Vizcaya, was formed in 1991. The group consisted of Álvaro Real and Santi Real on guitar and vocals, Juan Losada on bass, and Javier Letamendia on drums. Their early work was influenced by American alternative rock bands such as Pixies, Sonic Youth, and Pavement. In 1992, they released their first EP, Extended Play, establishing a sound rooted in the American alternative rock of the 1990s. The following year, El Inquilino Comunista debuted with their self-titled album, El Inquilino Comunista. Their breakthrough came with Bluff (1995), recorded at Black Box studios in France and produced by Ian Burgess and Peter Deimel. The album is considered one of the best Spanish indie-noise albums. El Inquilino Comunista's final studio album was Discasto, released in 1996. Their song "Lucy" featured in Daniel Calparsoro’s film Salto al vacío (1995).
