Casey Mecija, born on November 5, 1981, in Brantford, Ontario, is a Canadian musician of Filipino descent. She began her musical journey as part of the Toronto music scene, initially gaining recognition through her involvement with Ohbijou, an orchestral-pop band that toured internationally and gained significant popularity. Mecija served as the lead vocalist and songwriter for the group, which was known for its collaborative ethos and social change-oriented music. In 2013, Ohbijou went on hiatus, leading Mecija to focus on her academic pursuits and solo musical endeavors. She released her debut solo album, Psychic Material, in early 2016, which explored themes of queerness, diaspora, history, and love. Concurrently, Casey Mecija has made significant contributions as an academic and filmmaker, earning awards such as the WIFT-T Award at the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival for her work. She also hosts The Doc Project on CBC.
