Alfride M'Pongo Landu, known professionally as M'Pongo Love, was a Congolese singer born on August 27, 1956, in Boma. She began singing in the church choir at her primary school, and later, at age 19, quit her job as a secretary to pursue a career as a vocalist. With support from Empompo Loway, she formed her own orchestra, Tcheke Tcheke Love. Her breakthrough came with her first hit, "Pas possible Maty," released in 1976. She joined the Orchestre National du Zaïre (ONAZA), collaborating with contemporaries such as Franco Luambo. Among her albums were M’Pongo Love (1982) and Mokili Compliqué (1985). Later she established her own label, Love’s Music. Her active career included tours across Africa. M'Pongo Love died on January 15, 1990, in Kinshasa, at age 33, following a bout of cerebral meningitis.
