Gert Westphal

Gert Westphal, born Curt Gerhard Westphal on October 5, 1920, in Dresden, Germany, was a German actor known for his spoken word performances. He began his career with acting training at the Dresdner Staatsschauspielhaus under Paul Hoffmann and debuted as the second rider in Goethes Götz von Berlichingen in 1940. After World War II, Westphal moved to Bremen and started working at Radio Bremen in 1946. He became the head of the radio play department at Südwestfunk Baden-Baden from 1953 to 1959, collaborating with notable authors such as Alfred Andersch and Ingeborg Bachmann. From 1959 to 1980, he was part of the ensemble at the Zürcher Schauspielhaus. Westphal continued performing until September 2002, passing away on November 10, 2002, in Zürich. His notable works include Lyrik und Jazz Heinrich Heine  (1965).
