Jeanne Baxtresser, born on August 2, 1947, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was an American flutist known for her contributions to classical music. She began playing the flute at age 9 and earned top marks from the National Federation of Music Clubs by 1958. At 15, she performed with the Minnesota Orchestra under Emil Opava. Baxtresser attended the Interlochen Arts Academy before studying at Juilliard School under Julius Baker. Her professional career began in 1969 as the solo flutist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, becoming both the youngest and first female instrumentalist in that role. She later joined the New York Philharmonic in 1981. Throughout her career, Baxtresser collaborated with notable conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Leonard Bernstein, and Kurt Masur. She officially released an album entitled Bolling Suite for Flute & Jazz Piano (2010) with Eric Robertson Trio.
