Shulamit Natan, known professionally as Shuly Nathan, was born on March 16, 1947, in London. She is an Israeli singer primarily associated with Jewish and world music genres. Born into a family of artists, Natan's family emigrated to Palestine Mandate, where she completed her education at the Blich High School. Her musical journey began during her time with the youth movement Bnei-Akiva and continued through her military service as an educator for illiterate women.
Natan gained widespread recognition when she was chosen to perform "Jerusalem of Gold" on Israel's 19th Independence Day, just before the Six-Day War. This performance catapulted her to fame, leading her to adopt her mother's family name as her stage name.
