Custer LaRue, an American soprano vocalist from Bath County, Virginia, specializing in Renaissance music and traditional folk music, including the Child ballads and Appalachian folk songs. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from Peabody Conservatory in 1979. From 1983 to 2004, LaRue served as the lead singer for the Baltimore Consort, a period-instrument ensemble known for its interpretations of early music. During this time, she also released solo albums such as The True Lover's Farewell - Appalachian Folk Ballads (1995) and Amazing Grace - Spiritual Folk Songs of Early America (2001). Her vocals were also featured in films like Hunters Moon (1997), where she sang "Soldier Boy", and Vanity Fair (2004), voicing over three songs for Reese Witherspoon's character. In 2009, LaRue was honored with the Peabody Alumni Achievement Award for her contributions to music in Maryland.
