Steve Gulley, born September 20, 1962 in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, was an American singer-songwriter known for his contributions to bluegrass music. He began his career as a cast member at the Renfro Valley Barn Dance in Kentucky, performing from the early 1980s through 1994. His breakthrough came when bluegrass artist Doyle Lawson offered him a position as lead singer and guitarist in the band Quicksilver, where he performed from 1994 to 1996. Following his time with Quicksilver, Gulley formed and led several award-winning bluegrass bands, including Mountain Heart and Grasstowne. He released multiple albums under his own group, Steve Gulley & New Pinnacle, from 2015 until his death in 2020. Notable achievements include performing on the Grand Ole Opry and receiving an honorary Doctor of Music from Lincoln Memorial University in 2016. His collaborations extended to projects with Dale Ann Bradley, Tim Stafford, and Phil Leadbetter, among others.
